ArticleValue overflow incident
Bitcoin Wiki
View the originalA Bitcoin Wiki account of the August 2010 "value overflow" incident: a transaction exploited an integer-overflow bug to create roughly 184 billion BTC in a single block. Developers diagnosed it, shipped a patched client within hours, and the network reorganized onto a corrected chain that rejected the bad transaction.
It appears in this topic only as a precedent. It shows the network has, at least once, coordinated a rapid emergency fix — but it was early, small, and far more centralized than bitcoin is today, so it is a limited analogy for a quantum migration rather than proof one would go smoothly.
